How can I get dog pee smell out of carpet?

We have 4 dogs (2 shih tzus, 1 bichon frise, 1 puggle), and we haven’t been home much lately. So our poor dogs have to stay inside all day without going outside to pee, so they think they have to pee inside on the carpet. So now, behind the couch has basically become their bathroom and it’s really disgusting, and as you can imagine, it stinks. I’ve been trying to get rid of the stains and smell, but no luck so far. I’ve used oxi clean, pee pee brand supplies, and another dog urine stain and odor product, but nothing has worked so far. What should I do?

I have 3 cats & 2 dogs. Of course there have been accidents over the years – urine, a kidney infection, vomit, etc. Through all of my pets’ situations, I was trying all the different products to clean up their messes. There are numerous specialty products for cleaning up after pets. DO NOT BUY ANY OF THEM. None of them work. I have heard terrible stories from friends about some cleaners destroying carpet and damaging floors. Also they were all over priced, and never cleaned the mess to my satisfaction. They would either soak the stains or mask the smell for a few days. Even the ones that were designed for steamers did not get the job done.

The problem with using a steamer is that with a steamer, you are pushing water and whatever chemical cleaner you are using down into the carpet. If the chemical is soapy, you are not breaking the stain apart. Instead you are just saturating the carpet and maybe diluting it a little. Believe me, I used every cleaning tip or product you can think of.

I now use one thing and one thing only to clean up after my pets. Genesis 950 is an all purpose cleaner that actually breaks the bond of stains. I know I sound like a commercial, but it works. It is designed to work with water to actually get into the stain. Once it does this, it completely breaks it apart and the steamer sucks up all of the stain. If you are not breaking the bond like 950 does, you will not get rid of the stain and the urine smell will always return. Read the other questions posted here about pet urine stains and smells. They all say they cleaned, scrubbed, and sprayed some odor reducing product, but the smell is still there. It’s because these other products don’t break the stain apart.

A big plus for the product in my book is that the product is environmentally friendly and non toxic. It won’t make your pets sick – need I say more? One of my cats even loves rolling around in it after I have used it to clean up a mess. I don’t encourage that, but he doesn’t listen.

I first came across 950 at a garage sale and bought it to remove paint that was stained in one of my carpets. Since then I have used it for nearly every cleaning dilemma I have had. If you cannot find any at a store near you, it is worth buying on line. Try: http://www.amerikalstore.com

For future reference, put them in the laundry room or a bathroom that has tile or wood or something besides carpet. Thats what we do during school and work days.

If its that bad you might want to hire carpet cleaner service. Or buy a carpet cleaner vaccum. If not that then just keep cleaning it with hot water and pet stain remover alot of them have odor cleaners to in the cleaner.

A product called Nature’s Miracle from Petsmart etc or have professional cleaning done.

You might want to consider getting a pet sitter, friend or neighbor to come by and let the poor things out.

    RB,

I’d recommend Simple Solution’s Extreme Carpet Shampoo.

It works with any cleaning machine, and it could be what you’re looking for- particularly if the pet stains have been there for while.

A good carpet rinse is never a bad thing in pet stain situations.

    Good luck!
